As part of the various initiatives under the International year of sanitation, the Department of Drinking Water Supply organized a National Workshop on sustainable sanitation on 19th, 20th May, 2008 at India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.
The Delhi gov ernment will soon to take up an integrated sanitation scheme in the city to ensure that all people get the minimum standard of hygiene and do not go in the open for their toilet needs. The Delhi Cabinet will soon give its nod to a proposal to adopt the integrated sanitation scheme under the national rural sanitation scheme to give subsidy of Rs 6,000 to the people taking sewer connections for their areas.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today laid stress on total sanitation for socio-economic uplift of the State's rural people. He also expressed the hope that the State would be able to achieve the total sanitation goals before 2012.
The government has allocated one billion rupees for the development of the forests in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata). Patients of diarrhea related diseases have been on increase here in Siraha district following the onset of scorching hot season in the region. According to a district hospital source, the number of diarrhea and other stomach related diseases have been surging mainly due to the prevailing poor sanitatary conditions. Dr Raj Kumar Chaudhari, chief at the district public health office said that the district hospital and other health posts in the district are now packed with diarrhea patients.

Dinesh Prasad Goala, Minister of Urban Development and Housing recently announced new projects to be implemented in Barak Valley soon. Arsenic and flourides are found in the underground water in Barak valley. In order to make underground water free from arsenic and flourides all necessary preventive measure have been adopted by the State government.
