The gold medal for new wind power production in 2007 goes to the United States. More than 5,200 megawatts of capacity were installed there, a new world record. New factories are to ensure further growth, provided the promotion criteria are extended in time.
On the face of it, the Indian wind energy sector is booming. Installed wind power capacity has increased six-fold in the last seven years
Sales of solar heating installations fell short of expectations almost everywhere last year. Despite this firms are optimistic. Improved political support is driving hopes of an upswing.
Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) are a type of environmental commodity intended to provide an economic incentive tor electricity generation from renewable energy sources. If renewable energy such as wind or solar power is to be supported for global, environmental or a country's energy security objective, it does not matter where the solar or the wind plant is located.
Rajasthan is one of the states that is bestowed with good wind energy potential in the country. Of the 45,000 MW wind energy potential identified by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) sources, 5,400 MW has been assessed for Rajasthan. An assessment by the Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET), Chennai shows that Rajasthan has encouraging wind profile for harnessing wind power.
The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries is a dominant cartel consisting of producers with large reserves and it has always exercised its price-making power in the crude oil market. However, in the past few years, OPEC has been claiming that it has lost its power to alter crude oil prices. The article explores whether OPEC

Wind energy continues to be the dominant source of renewable power in India. About 8000 MW of wind power capacity has been installed in the country so far. As against this, the share of solar power is abysmally low mainly due to its high initial capital cost and thus, a higher cost of per unit power generation.
Price is just the start of it. We need to kick the petroleum habit or we'll soon be in real trouble, says Ian Sample.
Globally, the wind energy sector saw phenomenal growth in the year 2007. However, in India, the industry failed to keep pace. Worldwide wind energy installation were 19,696 in 2007 MW up from 15,120 MW in 2006. In contrast in India the installations in 2007 were 1580 MW down from 1730 MW in 2006.
