Rs 1,300 crore for drinking water in rural areas
BHUBANESWAR: The Thirteenth Finance Commission has given a grant of over Rs 1,300 crore for operation and maintenance of the drinking water supply system in rural areas.
Scarcity of drinking water in rural areas is becoming a major problem of the State as natural sources of water are drying up due to several factors and groundwater table is gradually shrinking.

Himachal to spend Rs 909 cr on rural schemes this fiscal

Chandigarh: The Himachal Pradesh government has been able to cover 78% of its rural population under rural employment guarantee scheme.
Sources in the rural development department told FE “the rural department has earmarked Rs 909 crore during the 2010-11 fiscal to cover another 4.5 lakh families under the scheme.
