Encephalitis kills 9 in Manipur

IMPHAL, July 14 – With the official confirmation of the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis epidemic in Manipur, the actual death toll because of the epidemic has come down to nine while around 60 have been hospitalised, according to Director of Health Services Dr Y Yaima. Earlier, Acute Encephalitis Syndrome(AES) epidemic claimed 15 lives.

Encephalitis kills 13 kids in Bihar

ANAND S.T. DAS PATNA Raising its head in Bihar’s rural areas for the second time in six months, encephalitis has killed 13 children in Muzaffarpur district in a week. Even as the 13th child succumbed on Tuesday, doctors at the government hospitals were reportedly dismissing the deaths as a result of the rising summer heat.

Larvae study to fight diseases

Rajahmundry, March 23: Health authorities are carrying out an entomological survey to find out the density of larvae and vector in stagnant waters in rural, urban and Agency areas to help authorities initiate preventive measures and ensure that people do not fall victim to vector- borne diseases like malaria, filaria, dengue, chikungunya and Japanese encephalitis in the Godavari districts.

Need for separate campaign to check encephalitis

There are separate national programmes to eliminate malaria and filaria. This despite the fact that both the diseases are caused by the same vector and can be easily covered under the national vector borne diseases control programme. Citing this example, health activists in eastern Uttar Pradesh reiterated their demand for a separate campaign to eliminate encephalitis.
