IMPHAL, July 14 – With the official confirmation of the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis epidemic in Manipur, the actual death toll because of the epidemic has come down to nine while around 60 have been hospitalised, according to Director of Health Services Dr Y Yaima. This despite the fact that both the diseases are caused by the same vector and can be easily covered under the national vector borne diseases control programme. Citing this example, health activists in eastern Uttar Pradesh reiterated their demand for a separate campaign to eliminate encephalitis.
