Hundreds of growers of Tandojam, Detha, Usman Shah, Tando Qaiser and adjoining areas staged a protest demonstration on Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas road in Tandojam on Wednesday. As a result, the road remained blocked for vehicular traffic for more than two hours.

BALANGIR: Politics over the proposed second dam project over the Mahanadi at Manibhadra in the district is hotting up with politicians of various hues joining the bandwagon to oppose the project.

Three hundred and fourteen small dams will be constructed over a period of four years in the country under National Programme for Small Dams. The initiative will provide two million acre feet (MAF) of additional water to irrigate additional over four hundred thousand acres of land.

Oct. 18: Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Saturday said the Pakistan government will never compromise on its share of water from India under the Indus Water Treaty.

"We are' aware of the problem and Pakistan will not compromise on the water issue," Mr Qureshi said while addressing a press conference here.
