Dengue Cases Shoot Up In Hospitals People Now Aware Of Virus

Bangalore: Seven patients a day -- that’s the average number turning up at the doors of each major hospital of the city, with dengue-like symptoms. The state health department is downplaying the issue in Bangalore, though cases are pouring in at both government and private hospitals.

1,840 viral fever cases reported from government hospitals

As many as 1,840 viral fever cases were reported from various government hospitals in the district on Wednesday. According to Health Department sources, this is the largest number of viral fever cases reported in the district on a single day in the past five months.

As many as 141 confirmed cases of dengue fever and five deaths suspected to be of dengue were reported in the State on Wednesday. One death due to suspected leptospirosis was reported from Kollam, taking the toll of fever-related casualties on Wednesday to six.

Cases Registered Against 33; Show-Cause Notices Served To Over 2000

The state health department has served show cause notices to 2,333 people, as well as registered 33 cases against those who have been violating the basic hygiene norms in their surroundings, paving way for spread of diseases.

Fewer fever cases reported on Sunday

Fever cases seemed to show a decline on Sunday with 9,289 people reporting with fever in various outpatient clinics in government hospitals across the State, as against Saturday’s figure of 14,631.

Continuing efforts by civic and health authorities to check the rise in dengue cases notwithstanding, the number crossed the 100 mark on Tuesday.

From 76 cases as on June 1, the number of people diagnosed with the virus reached 106, with a majority of cases reported in Jayanagar, C V Raman Nagar and Mahadevapura. Officials, however, claimed that proactive measures and adequate supply of medicines have been able to prevent deaths.
