GUWAHATI, Sept 23 – Incessant rains are to be blamed for the present flood situation in the State.

GUWAHATI, Sept 23 – Two more districts have been affected by the current wave of floods raising the number of flood-hit districts to 16 and that of the flood-hit revenue circles to 55.

GUWAHATI: The flood situation in the State has deteriorated on Sunday with 15 districts reeling under its impact. More than 8 lakh people have been affected in the current wave of floods. Sources said seven people have died in floods in Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Chabua during the past one week.

The government has sounded an alert, as water level in most of the rivers in the State continue to rise owing to incessant rains in some upper Assam districts as well as in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh.

Lakhimpur: Flash floods in upper Assam’s Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts have affected over 2.5 lakh people with the swollen rivers inundating more than 100 villages following incessant rains during the last two days.

Official sources today said rain-fed rivers Chamaong, Gainadi, Ziadhol, Kumotia and Lali had overrun their banks flooding 90 villages in Dhemaji district. In neighbouring Lakhimpur district, more than 50,000 people in 110 villages were reeling under the impact of the sudden deluge caused by the overflowing rain-fed Ranganadi, Rangajan, Dihing, Kakpoi and Tingra rivers.
