With most parts of the town reeling under acute shortage of drinking water, more and more residents are taking to the streets demanding that the civic administration sort out the problem on a war footing. On Tuesday, more than 100 residents from Sathya Nagar resorted to a dharna in front of the zonal office of the civic body in Kasipalayam.

The bottled water you are consuming either at home or outside isn't necessarily drinkable as it may not be processed involving standard procedure. The packaged water one may be consuming could possibly just be tap water or ground water. Out of nearly 53 bottling plants supplying packaged water in city, only 18 have ISI certificates.

With the summers setting in, leading to water shortage, consumption of packaged drinking water has shot-up in the city. According to an estimate, the city consumes anywhere between 30,000 to 40,000 bottles (20 liter capacity) of water per day.

PUNE: The rising temperature and shrinking water stocks in Marathwada region has forced the authorities to increase water supply by tankers.

As many as 1,875 tankers are supplying drinking water to 1,646 villages and 749 hamlets in Marathwada. A week back, 1,413 villages and 743 hamlets were receiving drinking water from 1,733 tankers. Now 142 additional tankers have been deployed for supplying drinking water to 1,646 villages and 749 hamlets, stated the report of the Marathwada divisional commissionerate.
