Kohima, Dec 26: Five herbal gardens have been established this year in Nagaland to conserve medicinal plants, popularizing use of local medicinal and aromatic plants among others.

"A lot of herbal medicines contain high amounts of heavy metals like lead and arsenic.

Environmental organisations have said that medicinal herbs are being openly looted from Mullaiahnagiri, Bababudangiri, Kemmangundi and Chandrdrona hill range.

A press release from environmental activist G Veeresh said that the plants from these hill have been in great demand from time immemorial and hence district administration and forest department should take steps to conserve the same.

SILCHAR, May 4: The Forest Department of Cachar has decided to plant herbal plants on 400 hectares in the Dholai area of the district for which the first installment of Rs. 60 lakh has been sanctioned by the state government. This was revealed at the meeting of the District Development Committee held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar today.
