BHUBANESWAR: Odisha government will take action against companies, which have bought private land without government permission, a government statement said.

Revenue minister Surya Narayan Patro has asked district collectors to register cases against companies, which bought land without taking government permission under the Orissa Land Reforms Act, 1960, the statement said. The minister has asked the collectors to take disciplinary action against tahasildars, who registered such properties. The government will cancel the land pattas of such deals, it added.

Steel producer Southern Ispat & Energy Ltd (SIEL) is planning to enter into backward integration by setting up a 1.2 -million tonne pelletisation plant in Chattarpur, Madhya Pradesh. With an estimated investment of Rs 300 crore, the plant is set to start operations by April 2014.

SIEL will invest Rs 150 crore in the first phase. The remaining investment would be done in the second phase. The company has already acquired 100 acres in Chattarpur and is expected to start its beneficiation and pelletisation process by April 2014, said a senior company official.

15% allowance on capital expenditure would help PSUs, too

India Inc has a good reason to step up capital expenditure (capex). With the Budget proposing an additional investment allowance of 15 per cent for assets acquired and installed in the next two years for over Rs 100 crore in capital spending, companies are expected to get a total benefit of Rs 25,000 crore.
According to an estimate by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), India Inc plans fresh capital expenditure of around Rs 5,00,000 crore in 400 projects in the next two financial years.

Decrying indiscriminate use of natural resources and deforestation in the name of growth, Union Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan today said that industries and corporates should focus on protecting the environment and ensure balanced and sustained development.
