KARACHI (March 25 2009): Due to the lethargic attitude of Sindh government and rapid change of faces at the helm in Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), the Rs 276 million project of developing four combined effluent treatment plants (ETPs) in the citys industrial areas is far from execution.

KARACHI, March 20: The city government has issued a legal notice to the Chinese contractor who was given the responsibility of collecting garbage across the city, saying that despite the passing of over a year since the signing of the initial contract no work has been done on the ground, Dawn has learnt.

The Sindh High Court asked the provincial transport department and the city district government to submit a plan for phasing out smoke-emitting, ramshackle and noisy vehicles, particularly two-stroke rickshaws, from the streets of Karachi within two months.

The $600 million Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) project of City District Government Karachi (CDGK) is in doldrums due to a lingering dispute between the provincial and city governments on the domain of the important infrastructure development project.

The programme to electrify 61 villages in Karachi has made little progress for the last four months due to the apathy of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation, villagers complain.

They point out that their villages were surveyed long ago but the officials have not prepared the estimated cost of the projects so far.
