The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has sanctioned Rs 145.72 crore for the construction of carriageways along nearly 89 kilometres of road on two major national highways, mainly in the districts of Kangra and Sirmaur.

Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said he received a communication on this from Union Minister for Surface Transport Kamal Nath on Monday.

Irked by reports that the Planning Commission has predicted the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will turn bankrupt, an agitated Union Transport Minister Kamal Nath on Thursday picked up his phone and complained to Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia.

The total length of the under construction Four-lane Highway of the East-West Corridor in Assam is 670.65 km and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is implementing the project. This was stated by PWD Minister Ajanta Neog in the State Assembly today. She was replying to a question of Phani Bhusan Choudhury (AGP).

Malda, June 15: The widening of NH34 in Malda district has been stopped after villagers protested the acquisition of land by the National Highways Authority of India.

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways sanctioned five new national highways for Himachal on Tuesday. The highways will be upgraded out of the existing routes. The ministry also agreed to fund the 1.7-kilometre Swarghat tunnel project on the Chandigarh-Manali road.

KOCHI: Opposing the Centre's move to go ahead with 45-metre-wide highways in Kerala, an affected person, T N Prasannakumar has said the State Government had already sacrificed much for the development of roads in the past and the plans to acquire more land is not at all justifiable.
