With the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) approving a hike in parking rates in areas under its jurisdiction, users of surface level parking facilities will have to dole out twice as much starting June. The Council at its meeting on Wednesday approved a new parking policy which will rationalise the parking system and have increased rates based on the area and the opportunity cost involved.

MUMBAI: The BMC plans to introduce variable parking rates in the city. It is working on a new policy to revise parking rates and make them area-specific. The rates will be higher in areas like Nariman Point where there is a greater demand for parking.

In the same policy, the BMC is also looking at fining vehicle owners who park illegally. People manning parking lots would be given handheld devices with inbuilt cameras with which they will be able to take pictures of illegally parked vehicles and also note their numbers.

New Delhi: Vehicle owners in the city should gear up to pay a hefty parking fee.

Faced with an acute shortage of parking bays near the CGO complex on Lodhi Road, which has in its perimeter several office complexes, the Union Urban Development Ministry has proposed a multi-level parking with commercial spaces that can be let out.

The proposal, which will be put forth before the Union Cabinet for its approval, envisages letting out space to commercial establishments like restaurants and shops to raise funds for the construction.

The North Municipal Corporation is ready to implement its reformed parking policy and as part of that, the civic agency will begin using handheld devices in the 64 parking sites under its jurisdiction.

The corporation, however, maintained that it will take some time to get these handheld devices connected to the central server, that will enable it to keep track of every car entering the parking site and for how long it is parked. "Initially, the plan was to connect these devices to a central server so that we have parking records for a month, based on which we can float fresh tenders without losing money to contractors, but that will take time.

JAIPUR: Driving in to Parkota (Walled City) and parking your vehicle there will be costlier from Saturday onwards, as civic authorities will start levying premium parking fees. In all three markets of the area, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) will charge premium parking fees for both four-wheelers and two-wheelers. The civic body will implement the premium parking fees between 11 am and 9 pm in Bapu Bazaar, Johari Bazaar and Chaura Rasta.

However, in the absence of a strategy to stop people from parking their vehicles in the lanes adjoining these markets, the aim of decongesting the Walled City's market areas is likely to remain unfulfilled.
