TIRUCHI: The ban on production and use of plastics below 20 microns in thickness will come into effect in the City from September 1.

VELLORE: The scheme which facilitates scientific disposal and treatment of biomedical waste from all government hospitals in Vellore district is to be implemented with effect from September 1. It includes Government Vellore Medical College Hospital, Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital and all 30-bed primary health centres (PHCs) in the district.

The work of Amin Bazar sanitary landfill project is likely to begin in September subject to approval of the Executive Committee of National Economic Council.
Officials of the Dhaka City Corporation said they had already acquired 50 acres of land in Amin Bazar area of Savar in Dhaka for the implementation of the proposed two-year project, undertaken by Waste Management Division involving about Tk 65 crore.

LONDON (Reuters) - Sparked by surging oil, a dramatic rise in the value of old plastic is encouraging waste companies across the world to dig for buried riches in rotting rubbish dumps.

Long a symbol of humanity's throw-away culture, existing landfill sites are now being viewed as mines of potential which as the world population grows could also help bolster the planet's dwindling natural resources.

The airport environment committee at its meeting today stressed the need to address two major problems ~ the bird and animal menace and the choked drainage system ~ both of which are causing hindrance in the safe operation of flights as well as damage to the runway.

In an renewed battle to tackle the mounting garbage problem, the Thimphu city corporation (TCC) will empty all recycle bins in the city tomorrow and urge the public to use them correctly by segregating waste. This step is an immediate action the city corporation is once more taking, after concerned agencies discussed solid waste management in a three-day conference from August 18.

With the waste management problem getting out of hand, the government is considering privatising waste management in the country instead of overloading itself.
