The tiger is out of a crisis but figures show the wild cat is not completely secure in the country

Reports of an adult tiger missing from the Ranthambore National park have rocked the region.

Five wild cats have gone missing from the park in a year with the latest labelled as T-83 unseen for a month now.

Though wildlife officials claim the tiger has not been poached, but the past experiences suggest the big cat could have become a victim of poaching.

BARIPADA: The pug mark-based census will be carried out in the Simlipal Tiger Reserve (STR) from January 5 to 10. This STR is home to 101 Royal Bengal tigers and 127 leopards as per the 2004 census.

Pug mark-based headcount of the big cats has been directed by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (wildlife) Bijayketan Patnaik.

Mumbai The tiger safari at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) got a new attraction on Sunday. Two royal Bengal cubs born in captivity were released into safari cages, creating a lot of excitement. Over a thousand visitors reached the park to catch a glimpse of the cubs on the first day, SGNP officials said.

The wandering big cat has outsmarted all efforts of forest department to catch it. While the beast has successfully managed to cross various regions, forest officials have only failed attempts to count for.

The lurking tiger has managed to hoodwink the forest officials. The combing operation at Gauriaghat village in Gosainganj ended in vain on Sunday as the forest officials, mounted on elephants, failed to trace the big cat. The tiger had reached Gauriaghat village on Saturday and was believed to have taken shelter in the thickets that cover a large area of land along the Gomti.
