Farmland biodiversity is greatly enhanced by the presence of trees. However, farmland trees are declining worldwide, including in North America, Central America, and parts of southern Europe. We show that tree decline and its likely consequences are particularly severe in Australia's temperate agricultural zone, which is a threatened ecoregion.

Biodiversity measurement is necessary to evaluate conservation alternatives and understand how to maximize biodiversity returns on conservation budgets. In the economics literature, most studies focus on species level diversity. Existing measures based on species' pairwise genetic differences do not perform optimally.

Fifteen years ago the hillside of Karsog Tehsil in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh was covered with pine mono cultures. The officials of the forest department preferred pine as it is not eaten by cattle, grows quickly after a fire, is hardy, requires minimum effort and had a good survival rate.

This report aims at evaluating the 2010-target by presenting indicators that can describe trends in biodiversity in the Nordic countries. The results comprise the most comprehensive documentation of land use in the Nordic countries to date.

Arunachal Pradesh has been identified as one of the "Biodiversity Hotspot" areas in the world. The tribes inhabiting the state recognize over 500 species of plants as having medicinal properties. The authors have conducted field trips in different areas of Arunachal Pradesh covering six western districts during March 2004 - October 2005.

Agartala, July 16: The Tripura Government has decided to conduct an extensive survey of the flora and fauna of the state under bio-diversity conservation project funded by the Japan Bank for International Corporation (JBIC). Experts have identified as many as 31 bio-diversity hotspots in the State, including 21 in South and West Tripura districts.

Mumbai, July 16 With the organised efforts of the city's Tree Authority, several rare trees in the city are set to get nameplates. These trees will get a bright green metal plates identifying them by their common and scientific names, in English as well as Marathi.
