Alongside dengue, malaria, conjunctivitis and viral fever, Delhiites are now fighting rising chikungunya cases with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi already reporting 21 cases in the past 30 days.

According to the World Health Organisation, chikungunya is a viral disease that is spread by mosquitoes. It causes fever and severe joint pain.

The nation, it seems, is in the sickroom this monsoon. Hospitals in Delhi are overcrowded with dengue cases, running into a few thousands, and last week, more than 75 cases were detected on a single day. Outbreaks of chikungunya have been declared over the last two months in as many as 14 states. Doctors in Mumbai are worrying over a major malaria epidemic.

Hyderabad, Sept 26: According to data from the government, seasonal ailments, especially viral diseases, are still widely prevalent in the twin cities; so far, 2,298 fever cases have been reported in September alone.
