NEW DELHI: The Delhi Jal Board signed a memorandum of understanding with the Confederation of Indian Industry in the presence of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit earlier this week with the aim of transforming Delhi into a water-efficient city.

According to Delhi Jal Board officials, a joint task force has been constituted along with the CII to work together on various water-related issues.

The present study has been carried out to see the effect of pulp and paper mill effluent on seed germination and seedling growth of mustard, pea and rice. Mustard, pea and rice seeds were allowed to germinate in soil taken in different earthen pots and treated with different concentrations of effluent.

This metal is being increasingly consumed in the industries. Its pollution potential, has therefore given rise to the necessity of removal of cadmium from wastewater.

The Root Zone Treatment System (RZTS) has been used widely for nutrient removal in European countries. In spite of having its more adaptability in tropical region like India its use to address nutrient induced issues in the country is very less.

The removal of chromium (VI) from synthetic wastewater by adsorption on activated carbon prepared from Royal Poinciana shell was tried to determine the effects of different dosages and different pH.

In the present paper an attempt has been made to study the waste management strategies of textile industries in general and bleaching and dying industry in particular and suggest techno-economical line of treatment of the same. The TDS, chlorides and sulphates are the matter of concern in the treated effluent.

The septic tank is commonly accepted as sewage treatment unit in isolated areas even if its performance is not consistent. The methods employed for disposal of such effluent are unsafe and needs careful attention to avoid risk to the public health. Constructed Wetland Treatment Systems (CWTS) have been used extensively now-a-days in some parts of the world for wastewater treatment.
