PANJIM: Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has declined to renew the Consent to Operate of the mining lease owned by H L Nathurmal, located at Arvalem in Bicholim taluka, in the wake of Supreme Court decision to halt mining operations in Goa.

“The lease holder is given liberty to apply for renewal of consent to operate once the Supreme Court and State government revoke their decision of stopping mining operations in the state,” the order issued on May 2, reads.

The Goa State Pollution Control (GSPCB) has directed nine steel units operating at the Cuncolim industrial estate to take necessary measures to control air pollution in the vicinity.

Keonjhar: The Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) has issued a notice to Bhushan Steel Ltd for allegedly constructing a railway siding illegally in Nayagarh area under Jhumpuratahsil.

The district environmental engineer, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, Kancheepuram, has submitted to the member secretary of the Board that a plastic unit be directed to shut down.

“It is submitted and recommended that direction may be issued to the unit under Section 33 (A) of Water (P and CP) Act, 1974 and Section 31 (A) of the Air (P and CP), Act, 1981 for closure of the unit and disconnection of power supply,” said the note from the district environmental engineer.

In the result, the appeals are allowed and the impugned common judgment of the High Court is set aside.

The Boards order comes on applications filed by M S Talaulikar and Sons Pvt Ltd and G N Agarwal Mining and Export of Mineral ore and further, directions from the Administrative Tribunal which asked the Board to reconsider the application after giving a hearing to the appellant.
