Only 11 elephants spotted in Dudhwa

Lucknow: The first-ever elephant census in Dudhwa Tiger Reserve has thrown up disappointing results. There are 11 elephants present in only one range of the reserve. The forest staff involved in the census work could not spot more elephants during the two-day census period last week.

Tiger count to be out by next month

Lucknow: Tiger census underway in Dudhwa national park might come up with final count of felines in a month’s time. The forest department has already taken to an intensive technology use to count the numbers of tigers. As many as 70 digital cameras have been installed in 225 sq km of core area of Dudhwa national park to trap the images.

Enumeration of tigers in Dudhwa underway

Enumeration of tigers through camera trapping method is underway in the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve. Around 100 sophisticated cameras have been installed at previously selected areas within Dudhwa to count the big cats in the reserve, Deputy field director, DTR, Sanjay Kumar Pathak told PTI. The enumeration process started on Monday.

Only forty Tigers left in Dudhwa

Dudhwa Tiger Reserve was in a bad shape and something needed to be done for it, if the tiger population had to be maintained, said noted enviornmentalist and Padamashree Ranjit Bhargava who claimed that there were not more than 40 striped cats left in Dudhwa.

He was in the city on Thursday to participate in a programme organised by INTACH and spoke to “The Pioneer”.
