Supercar dreams

The triumvirate of the American automobile industry, General Motors, Chrysler Corp and Ford Moors, have joined hands with the Clinton administration to develop a "safe, high-performance supercar" which will triple the modern car's efficiency. But some sceptical auto-watchers claims that the project is merely a ploy to hedge and stall efficiency, safety and emissions standards. They point out that several technological breakthroughs in virtually all aspects of automobile design and engineer are required for the supercar to materialise. Ron York, director of supercar development at General Motors, admits that he has no clue whatsoever to the car's technology .However , he promises to have a vehicle ready by AD 2000 for demonstration.
