India: Mundra ultra mega power project

In December 2006, Tata Power Company (TPC) Ltd., India’s largest private power utility, won the bid for establishing a 4000 MW Ultra Mega Super-critical Thermal Power Project (the Project). Coastal Gujarat Power Ltd. (CGPL) will set up the plant in Tunda Village, Mundra taluka,1 Kutch District, Gujarat State in Western India. The power generated from the Project will be allocated to states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. Electrical power flow transmission system will be developed, operated and maintained by Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL) that will augment the existing transmission network in Gujarat and other states.
