India state hunger index: comparisons of hunger across states

India state hunger index: comparisons of hunger across states India State Hunger Index 2008 by IFPRI highlights the continued overall severity of the hunger situation in India, while revealing the variation in hunger across states within India.
The availability of national household surveys in India that capture the three underlying dimensions of the Global Hunger Index at the state level makes it possible to develop a state hunger index for India. The state hunger index is calculated using a procedure similar to that used for calculating the GHI scores of countries. Hunger and malnutrition in Indian states can thus be compared with hunger and malnutrition in other countries. The overall objective of the development of an India State Hunger Index is to focus attention on the problem of hunger and malnutrition at the state and central levels in India through the development of an index that enables comparisons within India, and globally.
