Waste management

Sherpas in Nepal have collected 4.3 tonnes of garbage from Mount Everest. The garbage was dumped by climbers over the years and many have described the mountain as the world's highest dump site. "We have paid up to US $7 to the sherpas for bringing down each kilogramme of garbage from the mountain,' said Ang Phurba of the Nepal Mountaineering Association. "The garbage was collected mainly from South Col camping site or picked up between the southeast ridge route,' he said.
