Medical workers in the US have filed lawsuits in nearly 30 state and federal courts against the makers of latex gloves. They are claiming that the companies should be held accountable for the allergic reactions caused by the latex gloves the wearing of which had become an absolute precaution after the advent of AIDS. The Food and Drug Administration has known since 1991 that some people have developed allergic reactions to proteins in latex products and some of them have even died. The makers of the gloves contend that those who are sensitive to latex can switch over to vinyl and other synthetic gloves.
