Flawed plans

Flawed plans even as the 20th anniversary of the Bhopal gas leak tragedy is observed, the toxic substances stored in the ill-fated Union Carbide factory continue contaminating the site. But there is hope of a cleanup once a us federal court, looking into the issue, pins down the responsibility on us-based Dow Chemical Company, which has bought Union Carbide Limited.

At least two plans have been made on how this clean-up would be done. Environmental clean-up is the only issue left in the case filed by the victims in November 1999 in the us . The court had contacted the Indian government in March 2004 to find out whether it would allow a clean-up to happen
