ENVIRONMENT
The European Union approved a grant aid of EUR 4 million to help Maldives tackle issues related to climate change. The implementation agreement for the Project “Support for the climate neutrality strategy of the Maldives” has been signed between the Government of Federal Republic of Germany and the Government of Republic of Maldives at the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
HABITAT
The parliament approved government’s request to obtain loans totalling MVR814 million. The three loans approved by the parliament include an MVR308 million ($20 million) loan for water and sewerage projects, an MVR53 million (EUR2.5 million) loan for the upgrading of Male electricity grid, and an MVR453 million ($29.4 million) for budget support Maldives was honoured world’s leading island destination at the 2013 World Travel Awards Grand Final.
