Question raised in Rajya Sabha on cutting of trees in Taj Mahal’s special eco-sensitive zone, 06/08/2015. As per a newspaper report dated 3rd July, 2015 illegal cutting of around 4,000 trees in the 500-metre-radius of the Taj Mahal and 8,000 trees in Babupur forest block of Agra Division has come to the notice of this Ministry. In response to the newspaper report, the Ministry had written to the Government of Uttar Pradesh to furnish a detailed report on the issue. As per the report received from the State Government of Uttar Pradesh, the State Government vide its notification no. 1720/14-2-2015-302G/2015 dated 03.07.2015 constituted a three member committee under the chairmanship of Commissioner, Agra/ Chairman Taj trapezium Zone, to submit an inquiry report with recommendations to the Government within two weeks. The report of the committee is awaited.
