Agriculture in the new climate action plans of Latin America (Intended Nationally Determined Contributions)

During recent years, agriculture has played a much more prominent role in the climate negotiations. In the Paris Agreement, the importance of addressing climate change to ensure food security and reduce the vulnerability of food production systems was stated more clearly than ever before. The level of commitment and priorities of each country in support of the Paris Agreement were made explicit in their intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs), submitted to the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This study analyzes the INDCs submitted by 17 Latin American countries, and examines the way in which agriculture was addressed within them.
