Question raised in Lok Sabha on Pollution in Yamuna, 21/07/2016

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Pollution in Yamuna, 21/07/2016. The water quality of river Yamuna is monitored from origin to confluence with River Ganga at Allahabad. The assessment of water quality data indicates that River Yamuna is not meeting the water quality criteria downstream of confluence with drains in Delhi and in downstream reaches along towns situated on the bank of the river. The organic pollution load measured as Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) ranges between 1 mg/l to 97 mg/l against the water quality criteria as < of 3 mg/l. The water quality data collected during 2015 indicates a fluctuating trend as compared to the data collected during 2014 in terms of DO, BOD and Nitrates (ANNEXURE –I).
