Question raised in Lok Sabha on Crop Insurance Scheme, 26/07/2016

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Crop Insurance Scheme, 26/07/2016. Prior to current Kharif season i.e. Kharif 2016 season National Crop Insurance Programme (NCIP) with three component schemes namely, Modified National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (MNAIS), Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS) and Coconut Palm Insurance Scheme (CPIS) alongwith National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS) were under implementation in the country. However, from Kharif 2016 season, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) has been approved for implementation in place of erstwhile NAIS and Modified NAIS (MNAIS). The WBCIS has further been revised to make the premium at par with PMFBY. Restructured WBCIS and CPIS (for Coconut growing States) are also available for implementation to the States alongwith PMFBY. In addition, a Unified Package Insurance Scheme (UPIS) has also been approved for implementation on pilot basis from Kharif 2016 season to cover the other assets/activities like machinery, life, accident, house and student-safety for farmers alongwith their notified crops under PMFBY/ WBCIS. Details of farmers covered insured and benefitted under erstwhile schemes of NAIS, MNAIS, WBCIS and CPIS during last three years are at Annexure-I. Details of State-wise & season-wise Government share in respect of premium subsidy under NAIS, MNAIS & WBCIS and claims under NAIS are given in Annexure-II and Annexure-II-A. Details of State-wise & Season-wise claims paid by participating insurance companies under NAIS, MNAIS and WBCIS are given in Annexure-III.
