Directions under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 regarding implementation of the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016 by the manufacturers of Gutkha, Tobacco and Pan Masala

With littered plastic sachets posing environmental threat, the Ministry of Environment and Forests has directed 20 major Gutkha, Tobacco and Pan Masala manufacturers to stop using plastic material in any form. The ministry’s latest order comes after Gutkha, Tobacco and Pan Masala manufacturing companies have failed to adhere to the Supreme Court order and new Plastic Waste Management (PWM) Rules 2016. In the directions issued to all companies, the ministry said there has been indiscriminate use of the plastic for packaging of Gutka, Tobacco and Pan Masala and the concerned manufacturers have failed to ensure the compliance to the directions of the Supreme Court, restraining use of plastic.
