Order of the Supreme Court of India regarding deletion of provisions from enactments which cast stigma on the persons who are suffering from leprosy, India, 24/04/2018

On April 24, 2018 the Supreme Court asked Central and state governments to work for eradication of curable leprosy, and remove provisions from laws that discriminate against and stigmatise those affected from the disease.

Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy Vs Union of India & Others dated 24/04/2018 regarding deletion of provisions from enactments which cast stigma on the persons who are suffering from leprosy and also create a disability for them. Supreme Court affirms that leprosy is absolutely curable and hence there should be not discrimination. Apex Court also directs the Central Government to take up this issue with the other states so that there can be expression of sensitivity towards such category of persons.
