Question raised in Lok Sabha on Ground Water Pollution, 18/07/2019. Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) generates ground water quality data of the country on a regional scale as part of its ground water quality monitoring program. State-wise details of contamination of ground water are given at Annexure. A study by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) indicated possibility of nitrate contamination in groundwater above the permissible limit of 10 mg NO3-N /L due to excessive use of nitrogenous fertilizers particularly in light textured soils that has consequence on human/animal health if used for drinking purpose.
