Report on solid waste management in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, 02/02/2021

Status report by the state of Uttarakhand in compliance with the National Green Tribunal order June 29, 2020 regarding dumping of solid waste on the forest land at village Sirar, P.O. Nainipatal, tehsil and district Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand resulting in pollution and affecting the health of the inhabitants.

The report said that the total waste generation of Pithoragarh was 28 metric ton per day (MTPD) and around 6 MTPD was being processed using OWC (organic waste converter machine), plastic compactor and by 12 decentralized organic pits. Further, 50% source segregation was also being done and 0.75 hectare land has been arranged in Nainipatal by Nagar Palika Parishad, Pithoragarh for SWM treatment and disposal purpose.
