Report on illegal sand mining in river Narmada, Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, 17/02/2021

Factual and action taken report of Joint Committee in Original Application No. 99/2020 (CZ) in the matter of Rupesh Nema Vs The Mineral Resource Department & Others dated 17/02/2021.

The matter is related to illegal sand mining by M/s Power Mech Project in river Narmada, Sehore district, Madhya Pradesh.

A total of six sand mines by M/s Power Mech Project were visited by the committee constituted by the order of the NGT. All the sand mines have obtained environmental clearance from MPSEIAA and the consent under water and air act are valid up to, March 31, 2021. The team observed sufficient flow in river Narmada and all the six sand mining leases were located on the right side of river Narmada under district Sehore and the nearest distance of habitation is approximately 500 meters away. No bund/obstruction has been constructed in the river stream.

The report said that during inspection, mines were found operating and no heavy machinery was observed deployed in the lease area for sand mining and sufficient quantity of sand stock was found available on the river bed and no excessive sand mining like situation was observed.
