Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of 'In re: News item published in Dainik Bhaskar dated 10.01.2022 titled “Groundwater of Sanwer Road Industrial Area polluted by dangerous chemicals coming out of factories' dated 29/03/2022.

The matter related to toxic trade effluent generated from Sanwer Road Industrial Area, district Indore resulting in contamination of surface and groundwater. The Tribunal was of the view that the report needs to be verified and action taken by the statutory regulators against the erring industries or other violators in accordance with law.

The NGT directed the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board, Collector Indore, Municipal Commissioner, Indore and Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) to undertake a visit to the site, interact with the stakeholders and furnish a factual and action taken report on the matter within two months. The report should mention compliance of consent conditions and impact of discharge of effluents on surface and groundwater. Installation of requisite pollution control devices may also be reported, the NGT order, March 29, 2022 said.
