The grievance is against Mahamaya Alloy Pvt. Ltd. who is manufacturing iron and steel and is situated in the middle of residential area of village Dumduma, tehsil Chunar, district Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. It is said that the company discharges polluted air which was causing health effects. Within 300 meter of this factory, many schools are being run and contaminated water containing chemicals and heavy metals is discharged into the nearby land causing damage to the soil as well as the environment.

At the time of inspection, it was found that near the main gate of the industrial complex, several residential and commercial houses have been raised in the village Dumduma. Approximately 400-500 people are residing in the nearby area. The main cause of concern regarding pollution generated from the process is mainly due to movement of heavy vehicles for loading and unloading of raw materials and products. At the outside of the boundary, there is no arrangement of suppression of dust due to vehicular movements. The road from Chunar-Dumduma to the industrial complex has many potholes which may cause air and sound pollution by which health related problems may arise.

The unit is abstracting groundwater for industrial as well as for domestic purposes. However, they have not yet applied for NOC to CGWA/CGWB, the report said.
