Air quality deteriorating in Guwahati: NGT issues notice

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in matter of Himangshu Nath Vs Central Pollution Control Board & Others dated 12/09/2022. 

An application on the worsening air quality affecting the city of Guwahati and the resultant health effects was filed before the NGT.

The NGT said that the issue of worsening air quality affecting the city of Guwahati and the resultant health effects required consideration and issued notice to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, Central Pollution Control Board, Pollution Control Board Assam. The authorities were directed to file their reply within four weeks.

Himangshu Nath in his application stated that the city of Guwahati is one of the worst polluted cities in the North-East India and its air quality Index, March 13, 2022 shot upto 310 while on March 15, 2022 it was 308 as reported in the ‘Assam Tribune’ newspaper, April 22, 2022.
