Following last year’s successful trial run in wheat procurement when farmers in a few areas received SMS alerts on when to turn up at mandis, Madhya Pradesh has extended the scheme to all districts. Wheat procurement begins across the state on March 15 and only farmers who have registered themselves by February 15 will get the SMS and be able to sell their produce at the minimum support price. This is meant not just to reduce the chaos at procurement centres, but also to reduce the time farmers spend at mandis waiting for their produce to be picked up.
