For close to 10 years, BMC taxed Mumbaikars twice for sewerage

It’s a goof-up that had a rather long life — 10 years almost. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been charging the same tax twice from many of the city’s residents. It collects the sewerage tax along with the assessment tax (property tax). The same tax is again levied along with water bills. But for a query under the RTI Act, it would have continued unnoticed.

Centre mulls NRHM clone for urban poor

Rs 744.35 cr from SC plan diverted to Games: Study

A study by the Housing and Land Rights Network (HLRN) and the National Dalit Campaign for Human Rights (NCDHR) has found that Rs 744.35 crore was diverted from the Schedule Caste Sub-Plan of Delhi between 2006-07 and 2010-2011 to the Commonwealth Games. The funds were diverted to the departments of Transport (NDMC and MCD), Sports and Youth, Urban Development, and DJB, the study found.
