Dehing Patkai sanctuary yet to have DFO
DIBRUGARH, Jan 6 – It was on February 13, 2004 that the Assam Government formally notified the Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary (DPWS), consequent to the persistent demand for the Joydehing Wildlife Sanctuary in the Dibrugarh and Tinsukia revenue districts.

Folk belief helps in gibbon preservation
BAREKURI (TINSUKIA) - Folk beliefs and preservation of oral tradition have made it possible for the endangered ape species, the hoolock gibbon to survive amidst human habitation. There are 29 hoolock gibbons – India’s only ape – at Barekuri, an area of 21 big and small revenue villages.

Assam in the grip of brain fever
FORTY-FOUR people died of Japanese encephalitis, a viral infection, at the Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh on July 28. The same day another 68 patients suffering from the viral disease were admitted to the hospital that receives patients from across the state. T R Borborah, principal of the medical college, confirmed the deaths.

State rainfall deficit comes down to 12 pc
The overall rainfall deficit of the State has decreased further to 12 per cent. However, Nagaon and Hailakandi districts have been facing 68 per cent and 67 per cent of deficit in this regard. But, Barpeta, Kokrajhar and Tinsukia districts have been witnessing surplus rainfall this monsoon amounting to 56 per cent, five per cent and one per cent respectively.
