Make GM labelling mandatory

Greenpeace India has called for mandatory labelling of genetically modified foods that are used by various food brands. The green organisation, which released a report ranking 16 leading brands, said Nestle, Cadbury, Kellogg, Britannia and Safal were among the ‘red listers’ — those who used or were not averse to using genetically modified products.

Corporates pledge to reduce carbon emissions

The research organisation, International Data Corporation’s (IDC), worldwide quarterly PC Tracker for 4Q08 says 4.1 million more desktop PCs and 2.4 million more notebook PCs will be in use in India by 2009. Going by these numbers it has been estimated that the country will have approximately 47 million units by 2010.

Star labelling for fuel efficient cars ?

HYDERABAD: The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is planning to extend its popular “star labelling” programme indicating energy saving to passenger cars soon.

Sandeep Garg, an energy economist with BEE, told The Hindu that a scheme is being formulated to evaluate the fuel efficiency of the cars of similar capacity and weight and accordingly assign stars.
