The Punjab secretary has issued orders to replace the two-stroke rickshaws with four-stroke ones or to convert the two-stroke into four-stroke.
Two-stroke rickshaws will be banned after March 1, the Punjab secretary said in a notification.
The government is of the view that two-stroke rickshaws caused environmental pollution, which could be hazardous.
The secretary said that a notification had been issued to Rawalpindi and other cities of Punjab. Members of the rickshaw union protested against the order and said that the government was trying to create hurdle in the employment in the name of pollution. If rickshaw drivers will be unemployed, then a strong protest would be launched, they added. online
