Ministry will wait further before deciding on 30 others Acting on the recommendations of the Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG), the Coal Ministry is likely to issue formal orders for cancellation of 29 captive coal blocks belonging to Hindalco, Tata Power, Jindal Steel and Power and Essar Power, among others. “The file has reached the table of Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal. Orders or letters on de-allocation would be sent early in the coming week,” a senior official said. However, the Ministry will wait further before taking a call on 30 other blocks now under scrutiny. The IMG recommended de-allocation of the Chakla and Ashok Karkatta blocks in Jharkhand allocated to Essar Power; the Tubed block, also in Jharkhand, jointly allocated to Hindalco Industries and Tata Power, and Gare Palma IV/6 in Chhattisgarh jointly allotted to JSPL and Nalwa Sponge Iron, among others. In the case of the Kotre Basantpur and Pachmo blocks in Jharkhand, allocated to Tata Steel, the IMG has recommended that the mines be de-allocated but a decision should be taken by the government in view of a court case.
