Authorities concerned are yet to complete the Yamgha Amarai Irrigation Project though its construction was initiated 35 years ago. The project to four kilometre canal was started with financial aid from the World Bank to irrigate around 812 hectares of farmland belonging to 65 households at Yamgha VDC. Except for labour donation from local people, Rs 30 million has already been spent in the project. Treasurer of the Yamgha-Amarai Irrigation Project Mohanilal Basyal said that construction of a section of the canal and a tunnel was completed 35 years ago. “However, the project has not been completed due to landslides,” he said. Local people are unaware when the project will be completed, he said. A two kilometre section of the canal and around 600 feet tunnel have been constructed till now to drain water from the Gadi stream. Local resident Indu Basyal said the project could not be completed due to frequent landslides. Chairman of the local consumer committee, Narendraraj Pachabhaiya, said though they cleared landslides during winter, the canal is again blocked in the summer. Chief of the Irrigation Division Office Krishna Prasad Nepal said their work has been rendered useless due to frequent landslides.
