425 tigers in MP: Minister

Chhindwara: Madhya Pradesh Forest Minister Sartaj Singh today said that the state has an estimated 425 tigers. ''Although the Wildlife Institute of India will provide official report of tiger census by October, but according to a gross esitmation, there are over 400 tigers in the state,'' he said media here.
The Minister, who came here to review the work of his department, said ''By providing guns to the forest officials will not serve the purpose, they should get rights like police personnel.'' He claimed that the illegal logging was controlled and about 400 vehicles were seized in past one year and case was registered against two forest smugglers under National Security Act.
