50 dengue, 105 chikungunya cases reported from capital, so far: SDMC

Delhi has so far reported 50 cases of dengue and 105 cases of chikungunya, a report prepared by South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) stated on Monday. The corporation which compiles the data for the entire capital reported 10 fresh cases of dengue and nine cases of chikungunya in the last one week.
"Only five cases of dengue were reported from the national capital till this month in 2016. However, not a single case of chikungunya was reported from the capital by June last year. Regular visits to local area are being done to keep a check on the mosquito-menace," said an MCD official.
Over 55 per cent of the posts including malaria officers, malaria inspectors, field workers and domestic breeding checkers (DBCs) have been lying vacant for the past two years.
In other words, out of the total 755 sanctioned posts of medical officers and malaria inspectors in the North and East civic bodies, 531 have been lying vacant.
The North Corporation has 376 of the 528 posts vacant while East Corporation has 155 of the 227 posts unfilled.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on May 13, issued special directions to deal with the mosquito menace in the capital. The directions were issued at a high-level meeting with MCD officers.
Govt Measures
The government has directed all the government hospitals to increase the beds by up to 20 per cent for the treatment of fever patients.
A call centre has also been set up by the government where people can get information about the availability of beds in a particular hospital.
The Government has also decided to ban the sale of Brufen group of medicines, which are believed to have adverse side effects, during the dengue or chikungunya season.
L-G Anil Baijal had on April 29 directed Lok Nayak Hospital to keep beds ready for dengue and chikungunya patients in the event of an outbreak of the vector-borne diseases.
