Foiling a smuggling bid, Forest Protection Force (FPF) have seized 86 Deodar scants (sleepers) in Doda district last evening. Acting on a specific input, a team of FPF under the supervision of Deputy Director (FPF) Bhushan Lal Bhat seized 86 sleepers of Deodar from 48 compartment of village Manoe (Malikpura) in Thathri district Doda. The seized timber was shifted to the Forest Headquarter in Doda for further legal action. However, no arrest was made in this connection till reports last came. Deputy Director FPF claimed that the police and his staff had played active role in seizure of the timber and the militants also started firing soon after they left the area with loaded timber. Sources said some influential contractors and smugglers were involved in green felling in the area with their intention to smuggle the timber to other areas of the state. The senior forest officers were tight lipped over the seizure.
