On the face of it, the fact that there are over 8.5 lakh species of insects in the country, and of them only about 50,000 have so far been identified may not mean much. But, it assumes importance, considering that India is a party to the Biodiversity Conservation. It has now become obligatory for the country to document and monitor the entire range of its biological wealth, and that includes the insects. It is in this context, the development of a package of methods for collection of insects by a group of scientists at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore is important.
